Behind Mikuru is Michael Kloet, a multi-disciplinary artist based in Tampere, Finland.
My life goal is to make this world a little bit more beautiful through my art and own hands.
I started leaving my mark on this planet in 2008, writing, recording, mixing and releasing my own guitar-based music from my bedroom in the countryside of Gelderland, The Netherlands. Ever since then, music has been an important part of my life and I've been involved in numerous bands and projects.
Dreaming of one day building my own guitar, I started dabbling in woodworking around 2013. I quickly discovered a love for working with solid materials, and started producing wooden jewellery with a simple philosophy: respect the materials, and slow down to cherish the craft and journey.
I became fascinated by the natural beauty of different woods and materials such as shell, metal and gemstones. Through traditional hand tools, I built a deep connection to the craft. To this day each piece of wooden jewellery is hand-cut, -carved, -sanded and -polished without any electric power tools involved. My interests eventually expanded to traditional goldsmithing and gemstone cutting, which have deep roots in my family history.
My eyes see beauty everywhere around me, and I've been supporting my crafts with photography ever since 2008. I am now expanding my activities and am planning to share what I see through my lens with the world.
I am currently studying to become a certified woodworking artisan, and hope to graduate in 2026.
